About Morse Park, Lakewood, CO

Morse Park is one of Lakewood's oldest communities, with one of the city's earliest subdivision plats, Smith's, dating all the way back to 1887.

The neighborhood was developed over a very long period of time, with considerable growth occurring during the depression and World War II eras. Additionally, the neighborhood experienced rapid development during the postwar housing boom.

As is the case with many of Lakewood's older communities, the area's roots are in agriculture near Lakewood CO.

Presently, that tradition is visible in the neighborhood's numerous agricultural ditches and big parcels zoned for the rearing of horses, poultry, and goats. Residents take pride in the community's distinctiveness and fear that, as a result of the neighborhood's large lot size and development pressures, the neighborhood's character will change and important buildings and structures will be torn down before the chance to document them presents itself.
