What is a Pediatric dentist?
Pediatric dentists are specialists that are dedicated to the oral health of infants, children, adolescents and patients with special needs. They have the education, experience, and skills to care for a baby, child, patients with autism and other special needs, and teenage patient’s oral health.
Pediatric dentistry offers unique care for children that a general dentist cannot. Dr. Nam took an additional two years of specialized dental training and education after completing dental school. This includes studying child psychology, growth and development, and the specific dental and emotional needs of her young patients. Her focus is on providing a safe and fun environment that promotes great oral hygiene habits and a healthy outlook on visiting the dentist, meant to last a lifetime.
Dr. Nam loves kids! She knows to build relationships by letting them trust you so that the child feels safe and cared for. If your child requires dental treatment, we request to not be negative in front of them before and during the appointment. Children sense the anxiety and that you give off, and it can transfer to them, which can result in an unpleasant experience. We avoid using words that would trigger their anxiety such as "shot", "drill", "pulling teeth", "needle". Instead, we prefer using words like "sleepy juice", "Mr Thirsty", "Tooth Counter", "Wiggle Your Tooth", and "whistly toothbrush". Dr. Nam and her staff use the "Tell-Show-Do" technique. First they "tell" the child what exactly it is that they will do, then they "show" it to them by pointing it with their finger or by modelling it, then they "do" the procedure. This technique has been proven to reduce anxiety as the fear of the unknown is addressed, and they know what to expect.
Dr. Nam believes that parents play a vital role in the oral health of their child, and this includes regular dental visits. Parents are encouraged to come back during the treatment to provide emotional support to their child. If you are nervous, take note that your child will sense it and your anxiety can transfer to your children. For anxious or fearful children we can provide gentle sedation, usually through Laughing Gas, which allows us to perform the treatment with a calm, comfortable patient. An expert Anesthesiologist is brought in for Anesthesia. Pediatric Anesthesiology is an option used only when absolutely needed.

What procedures do pediatric dentists do?
Pediatric dentists can do any of the following:
Is a pediatric dentist more expensive?
A pediatric dentist has studied two to three more years of speciality training. During their training, the pediatric dentist at Hardy Dental Group can learn about the unique needs of children. This is one of the many reasons you need to get your child to pediatric dentists than general dentists.
Pediatric Dentist Near Me
The location of your pediatric dentist is essential if you are trying to save money. If the dentist is near your home, where you work, or go to school can be convenient as there will be a few treatments or follow up appointments in addition to routine visits during your treatment. Look for a specialist with excellent reviews in pediatric dentistry and the one you'll feel comfortable working with.
