Green Mountain Estates, located on the western outskirts of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, is a tiny, tight-knit neighborhood on the slope of Green Mountain. Green Mountainside is another name for the community, which is located between Alameda Parkway, Cedar Drive, Alkire Street, and Hayden Park. It is comprised of approximately 1,100 homes, paths, schools, parks, and a very engaged civic association.

Several other parks are near Lakewood CO, including Peterson Park, a tiny spot across the street from Foothills Elementary, and Mountainside Park, which acts as a gateway to Green Mountain.

History

Green Mountainside is an exceptional community that has developed significantly since the 1950s. The hill was constructed in several portions, each with its own publishing covenants, none of which have survived. As the area expanded, residents were dissatisfied with the destruction of the mountain to make way for additional residences. Residents resisted the development in the 1970s and 1980s, even erecting a human wall to keep construction employees out.

The Green Mountain Estates Homeowners Association was created in 1981 to assist Kelly in presenting a cohesive front. In 1988, a land-use agreement was negotiated, officially ending the feud. Over the course of six years, neighbors gathered once a week near Lakewood CO to clean up the park.

Presently, Lakewood's enormous, 2,400-acre William F. Hayden Park is the city's second-largest. It features approximately 20 miles of multi-use trails and breathtaking vistas of metro Denver and the surrounding area from its 6,800-foot top. It is home to a rich array of fauna and flowers and is one of the most popular outdoor recreation locations in the area. (Source: 9news.com)

Safety in the Neighborhood

The Lakewood Police Department's Neighborhood Watch program is critical to neighborhood safety. Although our Green Mountain Estates neighborhood is mostly devoid of criminal activity and vandalism, the critical nature of monitoring as many blocks as possible cannot be overstated.

Each Neighborhood Watch area is approximately one block long on both sides of the street. One or two Block Captains act as the block's coordinators. At the end of each active block, the city displays a conspicuous Neighborhood Watch sign as a warning and prevention to potential criminals. The Lakewood Police Department publishes a quarterly instructional safety bulletin that includes crime statistics and crime prevention advice. (Source: greenmountainestates.org)
