History

Mike Plungis began homebrewing several years ago using a kit gifted to him by his family on Father's Day. His interest developed into a passion, and he is now the creator of Great Frontier Brewing Company. Mike was encouraged to start brewing gluten-free beers after his wife, Annie, and a growing amount of family and friends were afflicted with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Great Frontier's initials are "GF," referring to the gluten-free beers the company focuses on manufacturing that taste just like conventional beers.

Mike's first gluten-free recipe - the Blonde Annie - won the 2011 National Home Brewing Competition. He brewed the recipe with a local brewery and presented it in the Great American Beer Festival a few months later. It was the first gluten-free beer to win a gold medal near Lakewood CO.

Mike recently put his abilities and creativity to work by making a farmhouse ale using Lithuanian yeast. His grandparents were both from Lithuania and arrived in the U.S. around 1910. This brew is a tribute to them and a celebration of America's varied melting pot. (Source: greatfrontierbeer.com)
